PLAYHOUSE ANNOUNCES SEASON
SCHEDULE
East Farewell – Playhouse owners, Rick and Julie Davidson held a
fund raising social event last Sunday at their farm where they welcomed loyal
patrons, friends, actors and musicians and announced the 1957 schedule for the
fabulously successful East Farewell Playhouse. Producer Jeb
Bernstein, who has been with the Davidson’s since the Playhouse opened in 1952
will continue to direct and produce the plays. “This is going to be a fantastic
season, we have great actors jumps chomping at the bit to get into these
scripts and or whole operation from set design to music to lighting has just
been getting better and better each year. This year will be great!” exclaimed
Bernstein at the party.
“We are thrilled to announce another full season of top notch
productions that will include both favorites and new shows, some will come
straight from Broadway, on a much smaller scale, but very current shows are on
the schedule,” said Mr. Davidson on the patio of his beautifully restored
farmhouse. The season will start at the end of the month with a revival of one
of last year’s favorites; Guys and Dolls. Practice has already begun and the
show is scheduled to open Friday, June 28th.
The schedule will be;
Guys & Dolls – June
Paint Your Wagon – July
My Fair Lady – August
West Side Story – September
Auntie Mame – October
Romeo & Juliet – November
A Christmas Carol - December
“The Playhouse has continued to be improved and will look its
very best for the opening,” said Julie Davidson when asked about the
renovations and promised additions to the Playhouse.

TRAVELERS OPEN WITH A WIN
East Farewell – The Travelers opened their season with a win
over the Bear Creek Cubs, 5-2. Joe Nagy picked up where he left off last by
sending the first nine Cubs down in order. It looked like Nagy was on his way
to a baseball miracle with back to back perfect games. The miracle was not to
be when in the fourth Cubs lead off hitter Josh Franks popped a slow curve over
second baseman, Art Archibald’s head for a single. The Cubs were able to move
Franks over to third but he did not score. The only scores for the Cubs came
with a ninth inning two run blast by Cub’s slugger, Ben O’Grady.
The Travelers
were ready to play, though, and after the very exuberant opening ceremonies that
saw the High School Band lead the team onto the field and a giant American flag
unfurled across the field during the national anthem. In the first inning
Johnny Cloos got things started with a double in his first at bat of the
season. He was moved to third by a sacrifice by Dimero and brought home by Joey
Brown on a beautiful Texas leaguer to right. The Traveler’s defense was also in
shape as they turned two double plays and had no errors. The bottom of the
order was able to contribute mightily as Brown, Archibald and Sweet were all
able to score runs. Joe Nagy even helped himself out driving in Billy Sweet in
the eighth to top off the Traveler’s scoring.
The Travelers
stay home next week as they face the Cedar Creek Bulls at 1:05 in the Ball
Park.

INCLUDES MRS. JOE MCCARTHY IN LUNCHEON – SATURDAY MAIL CANCELLED
Saudi Arabia announces it will not let
Israeli shipping pass through the Gulf of Aqaba. Foreign ships carrying cargo to and
from the Israeli port of Eilate now are using the gulf. Saudi Arabia does not
consider it an open waterway.
Mrs. Dwight D. Eisenhower gives a
spring luncheon for Senator’s wives and includes Mrs. Joseph McCarthy, wife of
the Wisconsin senator, who was snubbed at formal White House affairs earlier
this year.
Saturday mail deliveries are cancelled this week and the nation’s post
offices ordered closed for the weekend, despite approval of extra postal
operating funds by the House Appropriations Committee. Postmaster General Summerfield declared
that all reductions in service he
announced last week, after the House committee refused to grant a $47 million
deficiency request would be effective immediately. The committee approved a $41
million appropriation in the expectation that normal services would continue.
